New compact high-speed robot requires minimal workspace
M1iA
A new lightweight and compact, parallel link design robot has been introduced by FANUC Robotics Polska Sp. z o.o. Designed for high speed electronics assembly and picking and packing of light components, the M-1iA robot is available with 4 or 6 axes options and weighs in at only 14Kgs and 17Kgs respectively.
The parallel link structure allows higher speeds and greater accuracy than conventional SCARA type assembly arms. Handling a payload of 500gms the M-1iA will complete the standard pick and place trial of 25mm up, 200mm linear and 25mm down in only 0.3 seconds and with a repeatability of 0.02mm.
The lightweight design and compact size, measuring just 421mm wide by 500mm deep, allows the M-1iA to take up no more space than a human operator working at an assembly conveyor. The actual work envelope, 280mm diameter, is maintained within the width of the robot body making guarding requirements straight-forward and unobtrusive to human operators when working alongside. The robot also provides a potentially portable solution to meeting production requirements as required.
A removable stand ensures that the M-1iA is easily integrated into a machine and this is further enhanced by the robots suitability to be mounted at any angle of orientation. This increases the opportunities for multiple robot installations where work envelopes may be required to overlap.
The FANUC Robotics M-1iA is controlled by the intelligent R-30iA controller with integrated functions including iRVision, Robot Link and Collision protection. All that the robot requires to benefit from iRVision is a camera and a cable to connect it to the controller – a housing is provided in the robot body to position a camera above the wrist of the M-1iA.
M-3iA
New compact 6Kg parallel link arm robot for high speed assembly and packaging with six axes versatility.
Following closely the introduction of its first lightweight parallel link design robot, the 0.5Kg M-1iA, FANUC Robotics has now launched its larger version, the M-3iA. The design provides a compact handling solution for machine or system integration.
Aimed at assembly and packing operations the parallel link structure allows the compact M-3iA to be located safely in confined areas.
All joint motors are positioned well away from the wrist avoiding being exposed to high acceleration and, dependant on application, aggressive materials. All joints and mated components are completely enclosed and sealed to IP67 rating – the wrist is suitable for working in a dust or oil mist environment.
Realising the importance of this high speed configuration for picking and packaging applications, FANUC Robotics has produced a Food and Pharmaceutical version. The FANUC Robotics M-3iA Food robot has a white epoxy finish for harsh material protection which also allows the arm to be disinfected with acid and alkaline fluids – food grade grease completes the specification.
The 4 axes model M-3iA/6S has a hollow wrist for routing hoses through the centre of the gripper reducing interference, hose breakages and downtime while permitting very fast work piece rotations.
Applications requiring more complex positioning are suitable for the six axes M-3iA/6A with its ability to pick up components, assemble them at an angle and rotate them – effectively replicating a human operator but at far greater speed, with high repeatability over an indefinite sustained period.
